Series name: Undertale
Canon notes: Undyne is taken from the end of the True Pacifist Route. Frisk stayed with Toriel and wished to act as an ambassador between humans and monsters!

Species: Monster (Fish...?)

History: Here's a link!

Undyne isn't old enough to remember the ancient war between humans and monsters that imprisoned the latter in the Underground. Still, she was quite a precocious child, and was hotheaded enough to challenge the king himself to a battle. She couldn't even land a single shot on him, but Asgore was kind and gentle and decided to train her. In that moment, he earned the loyalty of someone who would grow up to be his most loyal follower.

Undyne's training progressed, and one day she actually knocked the king onto his ass! She felt awful about it, but it only cemented her filial affection for him. Eventually she was appointed to head of the Royal Guard and began training other hopefuls for the position of keeping the peace in the Underground.

It's not mentioned if Undyne ever met the original fallen child, Chara, who was adopted by the King and Queen. If she did, she didn't seem to care; she had orders from Asgore to kill Frisk so that their soul might be used to free all monsterkind. Fortunately, the protagonist didn't attack-- instead, fled into Hotland, and ended up giving Undyne water when she collapsed, so that she wouldn't die. Slice of life-y hijinks ensued, including an extremely enthusiastic cooking lesson that destroyed Undyne's house. The protagonist also helped Alphys and Undyne get their act together and admit their feelings for one another.

Here's where stuff gets... uh, interesting.

There was some awful stuff in the form of Flowey seizing all of monsterkind's souls and becoming a god, but thankfully no one remembers any of that because time shenanigans.

After Flowey was defeated and the barrier destroyed, Undyne followed Frisk up to the surface and presumably went and hung out at the beach with Alphys, where they did a cutie smooch. Toriel became a teacher, so it's not too far fetched to think that Undyne would have helped with that.

Personality:

Undyne is first introduced as an antagonist: a knight dressed in gleaming dark armor who pursues the main character (Frisk), sends guards to be on the lookout and try to arrest them, and other such things. When she catches sight of the fallen child in person she immediately goes after them, not hesitating to send a spear flying into the bushes where they were hiding. Of course, she nearly ends up nailing a kid, but thankfully spares him... And then spends a good amount of time getting said kid out of the way, back to his parents. Turns out she's not the antagonist she's painted to be.

In fact, Undyne is basically the hero. While the pacifist main character is technically a hero, they spend most of their adventure being treated as the enemy and a threat because they have the power to ruin everything. Undyne is the person every monster believes in. She's strong, unstoppable and tough-skinned, and there's no one better to lead the Royal Guard. When she faces the protagonist she starts off by giving a big speech-- then ditches it halfway through to get to the point. And yet, even while fighting, she's trying to teach the protagonist how to fight back. She wants it to be fair and expresses frustration if they don't follow her directions.

Of course, that's two-sided... Undyne is the embodiment of justice in the genocide playthrough. Even the music works against the player, declaring that the "true hero" has arrived. Notably, she'll save the monster kid if the protagonist strikes at them, and then attack the PC until she's finally wasted. Even then, she refuses to give up. Undyne has enough determination-- a real, actual power in her world-- to pull her body back together and keep fighting. She's the only monster we see do this.

Part of the strength that carries Undyne through is her connections to the people around her; she practically says her friends are her power. Full on shounen speeches are definitely her thing. She will note with regret if the guards in other towns have been wiped out. If the player has killed Papyrus, who is her best friend, it changes the manner of her pre-fight speech entirely; it's clear she's very sad and angry and wants revenge.

As a child, Undyne hung out with Gerson, a tortoise monster who acted as a sort of law enforcement/guard like she would eventually become. Apparently she was helpful even though she often ended up beating up the wrong targets. Oops. But the point is, she's had her mind set on this sort of thing from a young age. She's also very, very loyal. Her encounters with Asgore went from being very unimpressed to the sort of fanatic loyalty one only finds in fiction. It's clear she cares for him; she even knows his favorite kind of tea.

Undyne's main goal is to free all the monsters from the underground. That is, after all, Asgore's goal-- and she cares for him and the rest of her people more than her own life. She wants to keep them safe, too; she willingly gives her life in the darker routes to make sure the monsters have time to evacuate. Eventually she also admits to Frisk that, though she trains Papyrus every day, she's afraid he would only get slaughtered in a real fight. So she's been teaching him cooking in the hopes he has something else he can fall back on. Undyne also tutored Shyren in the piano until she stopped coming one day. Basically, she tries to be everyone's mom.

Like anyone, though, she has some real fears. She's scared that she'll fail, even if she'll do her best to prevent it. There's always that possibility. And she's worried that Asgore might fight Frisk and get killed in the process, even though Frisk hasn't lifted a hand the entire time they've been in the Underground. She knows Asgore is a big softie and hopes beyond hoping that he will make the right choice.

Undyne is a pretty hardcore lady. It might be easy to think she has no weaknesses, but that's wrong. She has an immense soft spot for those around her and a selfless streak a mile wide. She tends to run headfirst into things without thinking, especially if it's her duty; thankfully, she's strong enough that this isn't always a death sentence. She's never one to back down from a challenge either. Because of her position and her brash nature, she's also concerned with appearances; there are a few lines of dialogue where Undyne blushes or looks sheepish when she might not be seen as 'cool'.

She also has a pretty fond weakness in the form of Alphys, the royal scientist. Undyne is drawn to her because of her passion for all things nerdy, which she passed onto Undyne. (Of course she'd be interested in badass women and space mechas and giant swords.) When Alphys is in the picture, Undyne tends to get uncharacteristically self-conscious. She might be eloquent and passionate in words but she has to have Frisk act as a go between, being too scared of Alphys' reaction to deliver it herself.

Undyne acts as a foil for the protagonist in every path, either as a guardian for the monsters or as the true hero who tries to stop them. It puts her in an interesting place with regards to her personal relationships as well as her connection to Frisk. She has a lot of room to develop in the way of growing accustomed to humans, being more honest with herself, and finding a new place in life now that there's peace. She doesn't seem too bothered by the way things turned out, though.

Abilities:

Physically, Undyne is stupidly strong. She suplexes boulders for fun, which definitely puts her at Hulk-level ridiculousness. She's also very, very fast. However, extremely hot temperatures plus super heavy armor means she'll pass out and probably die without help.

It's implied that all monsters have a bit of magic, though some are far more obvious about it than others. Undyne's main skill is being able to conjure bright teal-blue spears and throw them at her enemies. However, she also makes reference to fire magic being the best thing to cook with. I think it would be safe to say she has an average amount of skill in water and fire magic, and everything else is beyond her ability.

Undyne has some musical skill as she was able to teach someone piano. She's also a fairly good cook as long as she doesn't go completely nuts with enthusiasm. Unfortunately, she... tends to do that a lot. Due to her affinity with water, she's likely a good swimmer. And lastly, she has good fashion sense and doesn't mind helping other people out if they need it.

Augment Skillset: Civilian (cook), if this isn't okay then support/counseling would be my second choice.
Sample:

[Today there's a blue fish lady onscreen. She ROARS and slams a magical spear through the nearest table, splitting it in half. Poor hospitality deck, it never asked for this.

She grabs her spear and looks at the console with a discerning yellow eye. Just one, since the other one is covered by an eyepatch and a bit of red hair.]

No one captures me. Not unless they have a DEATH WISH! No sign of them, either. They must be afraid.

[She brandishes her spear with a twirl and shoves it solidly into the floor. Her grin shows two rows of jagged teeth, and it nearly splits her face in half.]

It's been a while since I had a real fight. Come out of hiding, cowards! I'll show you why I was made captain of the Royal Guard!
